Say hello to my brand new feature, New Music Mondays!
It’s pretty much what it says on the tin; every monday from now on, I will dedicate a post to a fabulous bit of new music – be this a song from an artist or band that’s just starting out, or a new track from an old favourite. Or anywhere in between.
So, for the first NMM (as it shall henceforth be abbreviated), let me introduce Midnight City by M83.
M83 is currently the stage name of Anthony Gonzalez and his accompanying band, formerly including ex-band member Nicolas Fromageau. Gonzalez and Fromageau formed the band in 2001, so M83 isn’t a particularly new project. However their current single, Midnight City, has propelled them into the conciousness of a much wider audience, and they are starting to infiltrate the charts.
There is something of a summer vibe to Midnight City; I can see it being played over festival footage as sweeping shots of the audience are shown. As for sound of M83, the only way I can really think to sum is as a kind-of indie electro-pop. Fans of Friendly Fires, Two Door Cinema Club, Fenech Soler, Foster the People and similar bands will probably enjoy this.
